Thanks a Lot, Economy! We Can't Afford Meat! Now What?!

What?!?! [long pause] What?!?!

As a psychotic ex-girlfriend of mine used to say, "Give lettuce a chance!!!"

I'm not going to apologize for being mean, here. In fact, I won't ever in this blog. This isn't a politically correct blog. I want this blog to say what nobody wants to say, if need be. Just getting that out in the open, since this is one of the early entries.

And now, back to our story...

In this story on NPR (also referenced by the American Conservative Daily website), I won't speculate on the reason for the idiocy of the situation for this mother and daughter duo, but I believe it to be one of the damn dumbest things I've ever read (so far).

The mother and daughter in this NPR story are concerned that they don't make enough money mooching off the government to eat meat, now. SHUT IT!!! SHUT YOUR CAKE HOLES!! How about cutting down on Twinkies™ or Pepsi™ or whatever else is causing you both to weigh in at what appears to be the equivalent of a compact car each.

My advice: Get better jobs or marry rich. If you can't find better jobs or better men where you are, MOVE. Ladies, one of the great things about this country, even in a cruddy economy, is that you have choices and there is abundance. Choose to do something about it instead of sitting around wallowing in self pity.

My wife and I make a decent living. We've spent our lives working hard to earn the salaries that we earn. We've spent time in training, reading, learning constantly, all to hone our skills so that we might be able to draw bigger salaries. I'm working hard to build a small business while I'm employed full-time. The new business will run on the skills and experience I've built up in my 20+ years in my industry. I've worked hard to get where I am.

Some people just have to work hard to build up a livelihood to the degree that makes them happy and content. It isn't necessarily about money, either. Time for family, religion, your health, and extracurricular activities are all part of a balanced life. If you are doing well with your career, you can maintain that balance more easily. Your situation is your responsibility, not the government's, and not that of anyone else. If you chose to take the lazy route and not to take the initiative to improve your situation, you will not enjoy the benefits of what you consider to be a better lifestyle. If you're content where you're at, not eating meat or sitting on the couch eating Twinkies™, watching TV, playing video games, or maybe feeling sorry for yourself and your situation, then expect to enjoy the benefits of doing nothing to improve your life. Those benefits are usually along the line of weight gain, discontent, the inability to afford "wants" versus "needs," etc.

One more thing, ladies... Tell your deadbeat relatives to do the same! Get off your asses, quit siphoning resources from our government that are meant for people who truly cannot do anything about their situations.
